ASID NY METRO Chapter Strategic Plan 2011-2012 

Chapter Mission Statement:

 

We are the premiere professional association of interior designers in the NY Metropolitan area.  Our abiding mission is to elevate and strengthen the professional practice of Interior Design in the NY Metropolitan region.  Through educational outreach, support of vital legislation, and programming for the public and our membership, we enhance the visibility and credibility of the ASID brand, help our members grow and strengthen their businesses, and serve our communities.

 

 

Chapter Vision Statement:

 

As the NY Metro chapter of ASID, we believe that the practice of Interior Design has an ever-increasing impact on the psychological, physical and economic quality of our lives.  In a world of diminishing resources and mounting challenges, we are committed to ASID’s guiding principles of excellence in education and professional practice, and are uniquely prepared to play a vital role in our communities.  Through our efforts, we will promote the value of interior design, contribute to the welfare of our communities, and generate new areas of opportunity for our profession. 

 

 

Goals Summary:

1. Effectively manage ASID NY Metro Chapter.

2. Increase and promote the value of being a member of 

the ASID NY Metro Chapter.

3. Promote to the public the value of hiring an ASID NY 

Metro Interior Designer.

 

 

GOAL ONE:  Effectively manage ASID NY Metro Chapter

OBJECTIVE ONE:  Recruit and train volunteers to ensure chapter effectiveness

 

Strategy (1):  Train the Board of Directors.

 

Tactic (1):  Produce meeting with National support July 13 or 14 2011.

 

Strategy (2):  Identify committees.   

 

Tactic (1):  Write job description and duties for committee chairs

BY: Officers/1 week- Suzan, Pam, Jacqueline

 

Tactic (2): Eblast to membership announcing the committees and descriptions of duties and invite/encourage members to sign up for committee best suited to them.

 

Tactic (3): Identify and Recruit Committee Chairs

BY:  Board members/ 2 weeks

Success = all positions filled

 

Tactic (4): Train all committee chairs with Board members. 

Review Strategic Plan, committee job descriptions, provide committee reports form, Robert’s Rules and necessary budget information. Take head shots to post on website with contact information.

Tactic (5): Provide ongoing volunteer recruitment and training.

 

Success= Volunteers understand and are committed to success of NY METRO. Continuity and standard procedures are established.

 

 

 

OBJECTIVE TWO: Create atmosphere of collegiality among officers, board members and volunteers to attract volunteers.

 

Strategy (1):  President to train President-Elect (PE) and PEE (when identified) throughout year.

 

Tactic (1): President, PE and PEE to copy each other on all correspondence pertaining to NY METRO ASID

Strategy (2):  Create opportunities for Board to develop

harmonious working relationships with each other.

 

Tactic (1): Conduct Board retreat embracing Board each year   

By: President-Elect; before October 1.

 

Strategy (3):  Encourage success of volunteers by training them.

 

Tactic (1):  Create culture & methods so Board members and Committee chairs communicate regularly

Success =  New volunteers are easy to recruit next year.  Members volunteer without being asked.

 

 

 

OBJECTIVE THREE:  Operate NY Metro Chapter in fiscally responsible manner

 

Strategy (1): Educate all Board members as to chapter finances and responsibilities

 

Tactic (1): Conduct budget orientation and financial overview for all Board members

Strategy (2):  Create a budget that funds the Strategic Plan.

 

Tactic (1): Review budget and allocate costs per line items in Strategic Plan.

Tactic (2):  Require each committee to create plans with estimated cost budget at annual Committee training

Tactic (3):  Provide committees with Project Outline template to record all related aspects of planning an event

Strategy (3):  Conduct performance reviews of all contractors annually or as appropriate per contract. Evaluate deliverables performance and fees. 

 

Tactic (1):  Require contractors to submit semi-annual self evaluation of their performance- October and May.

Tactic (2):  Require Chapter Administrator to submit monthly report to President before each Board Meeting

Tactic (3):  Annually review performance of Naylor, DSA and all other sub-contractors.

Strategy (4):  Complete Strategic Plan work plan

GOAL TWO:  Increase & promote the value of being a member of the ASID NY Metro Chapter 

OBJECTIVE ONE: Promote value of ASID NY Metro membership to attract and retain members.

 

Strategy (1): Encourage membership to participate in ASID NY Metro

 

Tactic (1):  Create testimonials by all membership categories to run on website and newsletter to get people to attend events.

BY:  Membership Committee, Communications Committee, Chapter Administrator 

Success = 5 testimonials published re: membership value

 

Tactic (2): Develop and train a committee on reach out one on one to the membership.

BY:  Membership Committee

Success = active membership outreach campaign leading to increased member participation

 

Tactic (3): *Host a New Members Orientation event quarterly (Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring)

Tactic (4): Promote refreshed message to membership about the specific tangible and intangible advantages of membership at programs/events (Example: CEU’s, diversity of membership, networking, etc, at all ASID events)

Tactic (5):  Investigate free referrals for all members on website to increase membership value

OBJECTIVE TWO:  Provide avenues for professional growth.

 

Strategy (1):  Provide high-quality residential and commercial educational opportunities:

 

Tactic (1): Identify & produce 3 high quality content CEUs (HSW credits approved by IDCEC and AIA) for 4th Quarter, 1st Quarter and 2nd Quarter regarding: 

  • Sustainability, Business Practices, Technology Tools

Success = Members depend on ASID for high level education and networking opportunities w/ other design professions

 

Tactic (2): Identify and plan two monthly series:

OBJECTIVE ONE:  Develop clearly defined outreach to public 

 

Strategy (1):  Create, identify charge and appoint a Marketing Committee develop a marketing plan for the NY METRO chapter. 

Tactic (1):  Identify goals for marketing plan including audiences, and outcomes.

Tactic (2):  Research and analyze all opportunities including trade show exhibits,  (Example: Arch. Digest Home Show, NYIGF, ICFF, etc.) speakers (example, 92nd St. Y, MMPI, etc.) and other venues including digital and Pro-Bono projects in line with chapter’s strategic objectives.

Tactic (3):  Make recommendations to Board of Directors including budget for two initiatives in 2011-2012, as feasible.
